LABOR CANDIDATE FOR COWPER
LABOR TO FUND COFFS COLTS TURF WICKET
A Shorten Labor Government will provide $50,000 funding to allow the Coffs Colts Cricket Club to set up a new home venue with a new turf wicket.
With the International Stadium and surrounding grounds regularly used by multiple different sports, the Colts played little more than half of all their home fixtures on their home ground last season.
Funding for the project will be in the first Labor budget, and will help contribute to suitable drainage works and installation of turf wicket square at Coffs Leagues Club.
Among the 150 playing members, the Coffs Colts Cricket Club has the only female junior cricket side in the Coffs Harbour & District Association.
The provision of a turf wicket will also allow the association to host cricket carnivals in the future.
Federal Labor believes that all Australians should have the opportunity to participate in sport and have access to decent sporting facilities, no matter where they live.
Organisations like Coffs Colts Cricket Club are also important in backing the rapid growth in participation by women and girls in competitive sports.
Local sporting facilities are of great significance and community benefit in regional Australia both for participants and spectators
As participation in sport continues to rise in the region, it is important to ensure that locals have suitable facilities to play on.
A Shorten-Labor Government is committed to providing these facilities that will ensure that men and women of all ages can be active and enjoy cricket.
Labor has made hard budget decisions to ensure our priorities are fully paid for – we will make multinationals pay their fair share and close unsustainable tax loopholes.
