On Tuesday 4 December 2018, Kempsey Council met to discuss a Noise Management Plan for the airport, devised by the Kempsey Airport Reference Group and a consultant. Aviation is a federal matter.

I understand it was recognised by Council the report was incomplete and not fit for public release at this time. I further understand Council agreed that the plan would go on public display for a minimum of 12 weeks. Both developments, in terms of the process, are welcome.

Even if this report is finalised ‘soon’, the public consultation period shouldn’t commence until after the school holidays are over, that is February when all interested parties are available to give this important matter their full attention.

I remain highly sceptical that Kempsey Airport is fit for what’s proposed but believe it is important to go through a robust process as to ensure that consensus on the future of this proposal can be reached.
